Halloween Chain Ghost Stories

Brandon Crowder

This is a Halloween version of the simple activity (no materials needed) commonly known as "Chain Stories." It allows students to work together to create a ghost story. This can be used as a filler or as part of the main lesson. Each student takes a turn to speak a sentence to add to the story. Imagination is key! The teacher begins by describing the context and may tell the first sentence.

For example, since there are mountains nearby my school, I explained to my students that we would tell the disappearance of a girl who went hiking alone in the mountains one day. The students then raised their hands whenever they had a sentence in mind to add to the story. They proceeded to construct a story that explained how the hiker became lost and died in the mountains and how her ghost can be seen walking around as if she was still hiking. This activity could consist of more than one "round" of storytelling, each with a different context that the teacher has preplanned.
